Bibliotheca Teubneriana Latina (BTL)

The "Bibliotheca Teubneriana Latina" (BTL) is a new CD-ROM version of Teubner's Latin text editions. The aim of this new electronic edition of the well known Teubner texts is to offer new and advanced research facilities to the classicists. The research software delivered together with the text database has been developed by the CETEDOC team who published the "Library of Christian Latin Texts" (please have a look here). This first CD-ROM of the "Bibliotheca scriptorum Romanorum Teubneriana" provides the user with the complete texts (other than the prefaces or critical apparatus) from the standard editions (editiones maiores) of more or less 500 works spread over eight centuries (c. 300 B.C.E. to c. 500 A.D./C.E.), from Plautus to Martianus Capella, and it includes technical texts. At the moment two future updates are envisaged which will extend the electronic "Bibliotheca Teubneriana Latina" (BTL) to over 700 texts. With the appearance of the planned updates the CD-Rom will contain all the editions of the "Bibliotheca Teubneriana" up to and including those published in 1997. Moreover, it will contain both editions of the last 40 years which are out of print and standard editions of the 19th or early 20th century which have been neither updated nor replaced by new editions - for instance, Otto Ribbeck's Virgil (publ. 1894-1895). The electronic updates nevertheless will allow newly appeared editions to be incorporated into the database. The first CD-ROM (BTL 1) was published in 1999. Meanwhile BTL 3 has been published.
